Melting Magic

I’m pleased to show you some of my new Melting Magic creations. Click on any of the photos to see more details. I encourage you to come back often to see what’s new!

Winter Night (series)

Snowflakes drift to the ground on a cold winter night. I created the pieces in this series with the melted magic art technique on discharged fabric. These pieces measure approximately 26 x 13 inches.

Melted Sunflowers

The sunflower is the Kansas state flower, which grows wild all over the state. This piece measures 7 x 5 inches.

Melted Wheat

The state of Kansas raises much of the wheat that helps feed people all over the world. This piece measures 7 x 5 inches.

Be a Tree

Trees are rich in symbolism - everything from standing firm, setting down roots, protection, and many more. I felt compelled to do a tree mandala to celebrate the riches that trees give us, both symbolically and literally. This piece measures 26.5 x 25.25 inches.

Outside the Box

This is a totally unique art piece in which fabrics with low melting points are stitched with all-cotton thread that doesn’t melt at those temperatures. I melt selected areas with a soldering iron and a heat gun. It is such a unique form of fiber art, and I love the serendipitous results. This is the first of many such pieces, so watch for more! This piece measures 22 x 17.5 inches.

Mercy's Window 10

When I made this piece, I kept thinking of what the world would be like if everyone treated others with mercy. The more I think of mercy the more important I realize the word "mercy" to be; I hope I always look at the world through the window of mercy. This piece measures 12.25 x 6 inches.

Daisy Mandala 10

The mandala form is a natural for flowers: Nature’s gift of beauty and fruitfulness to the world. This piece measures 26 x 26 inches.

Hexi 11

This piece was an experiment that turned out well! When I try a new technique I love playing “what if.” Sometimes the “what if” does not turn out to be a great idea, but I always learn something; that is what playing “what if” is all about! This piece measures 10 x 8 inches.

Sunflower Mandala 10

The sunflower is the state flower of Kansas, so that was the perfect subject for this mandala. This piece measures 26 x 26.5 inches.

Mandalas are used in meditation in some cultures; that is no wonder, as circles have such a rich symbolic history. These pieces measure 10 x 8 inches.

These mandalas celebrate the majestic tree, which provides food, shelter, and even cleanses the air. These pieces measure 10 x 8 inches.

Snowflakes are a natural for my Melting Magic art! None are alike, even though they all are made of water. These pieces measure 10 x 8 inches.
